Dr. Murrelet Halterman will present an overview of the current Yellow-billed Cuckoo call- playback protocol. This workshop is for both those interested in working towards obtaining permits to survey for cuckoos and for those who would like to know more about this fascinating species! The first day is an afternoon lecture session, with an in-depth discussion of the species, identification, cuckoo behavior, and habitat use. The next morning is practice in the field and looking at examples of typical cuckoo habitat.
Dr. Murrelet Halterman has studied Yellow-billed Cuckoos throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada for over 25 years. This work includes coordinating statewide surveys, conducting primary research on home range, vocalizations, and mating systems, and conducting training workshops. She is the lead author of the current Yellow-billed Cuckoo survey protocol.
