| Toxin was readily produced using aquatic or terrestrial invertebrates as a nutrient source. Failure to demonstrate toxin production using mud or marsh debris and water as nutrient sources indicates that the toxin of (Clostridium botulinum) Type C is produced, contained, and protected within invertebrate bodies. The etiology of botulism and the role of these invertebrates is discussed. |
