Vernal Pool Symposium

Description Recent updates in guidance for mitigation and waters designations by resources agencies has led to a need to share information about vernal pool coverage, as well as management and mitigation trends. This one-day symposium intended for agency, environmental consultants, managers, and students will consist of a full day of oral presentations, a poster session, and a structured Q & A with an expert panel. Session topics to be addressed in the classroom session will include:
  • Landscape coverage and trends
  • Regulatory overview
  • Botany and wildlife
  • Mitigation
  • Restoration, preserves, and case studies
A poster session will take place during an extended lunch period.
Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided; please indicate in the comments at the bottom of any dietary restrictions. On-campus parking cost is estimated at $8, details to follow.

Instructions and Payment Policy
  • Read instructions, complete all applicable fields, and click “submit.”
  • Registration for the Classroom is first-come, first-served (government employees are encouraged to register and pay on their own, if needed). It is expected we will have plenty of space for registrations.
  • Payment may be made online with a credit or debit card through Paypal, or a check can be sent to the Chapter. Sorry, but no purchase orders can be accepted.
  • All checks should be sent in with a printout of the registration receipt to the Chapter address below, and must be postmarked by Friday, October 20, 2017 to qualify for the early registration rate.
  • Registration is not considered complete until all payment has been received.
  • If you cannot attend after registering and you wish to send a substitute, you must send a request no later than Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 to sac.shasta@gmail.com. Substitutions are not guaranteed, and see cancellation policy below.
Student / Young Professional rate eligibility:
  • Students must be currently enrolled at a university or college or within 6 months of degree conferral. Please register with your university or college email address.
  • Young Professionals are Sac-Shasta TWS current members who have graduated within 2 years with a degree in a wildlife-related field AND are employed less than full-time in a temporary/limited-term/seasonal position.
Field Trip (Spring 2018 - registration separate) The Chapter is planning an accompanying field trip to a vernal pool restoration site, mitigation site, or preserve in spring 2018. Those who register for the Classroom Session will be eligible for a discounted rate for one of the limited enrollment spots for the field trip. Location, cost, and timing will be determined based on site conditions in early 2018.

POSTER ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Abstracts (not to exceed 300 words) are solicited for poster presentations (as space allows) within topics of the Classroom Session for the Vernal Pool Symposium. Posters should not exceed 3’ x 4’ in size, and posters will be accepted as space allows.

I am interested in submitting an abstract for a poster, and will email the abstract with current contact info and my affiliation to sac.shasta@gmail.com by Friday, October 20, 2017.

Presenters of accepted posters should register for the symposium, select “check” option for payment and will be invoiced for a reduced registration fee of $75.

Cancellation and Substitution Policy:
  • Cancellations must be provided in writing via email to sac.shasta@gmail.com before Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Cancellations are subject to a 10% administrative fee.
  • No registration fees will be refunded after Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
  • If you cannot attend after registering and you wish to send a substitute, you must send a request no later than Tuesday, October 31, 2017 to sac.shasta@gmail.com. If the symposium is full with a waitlist, substitutions are not guaranteed
